Internap Opens Phoenix P-NAP to Serve Southwest, West Coast
-- Leveraging Sterling Network's Highly Secure Data Center Will Provide High-Performance IP Solutions to Area Businesses --
ATLANTA - November 1, 2004 - Internap Network Services Corporation (AMEX: IIP), the leading provider of performance-based IP services, announced today that it has opened its new Private Network Access Point (P-NAP) in Phoenix to serve the burgeoning business community in the Southwest.
Internap is leveraging Sterling Network Services' world-class Phoenix data center in deploying its services in the area. The Sterling data center is housed within a hardened, blast-resistant concrete structure, and is considered one of the most disaster-resistant and redundant data centers and co-location facilities in the country, making it an ideal choice for Internap's new P-NAP. To provide the highest levels of security, Sterling's data center offers state-of-the-art biometric and physical access control devices; manned security and video surveillance; and advanced fire detection and suppression.
"We believe that coupling the Sterling facility with Internap's premier IP connectivity and management solutions sends a powerful message to companies looking to strengthen the redundancy, resiliency and reliability of their data center operations, " said Dave Abrahamson, vice president of Sales for Internap. "At the same time, businesses on the west coast - San Diego, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc. - can look to this facility as a 'Mother Nature-proof' backup location for disaster recovery and disaster avoidance."
Internap's unique multi-carrier intelligent routing technology, which uses Private Network Access Points (P-NAPs) to speed Internet traffic from one location to another, allows customer traffic to avoid the congestion and bottlenecks of traditional single-carrier networks. Internap's P-NAPs connect directly to the Internet backbones of multiple carriers in major cities throughout North America, as well as Tokyo and London.
The P-NAP software continually analyzes the traffic situation on every major Internet backbone, and then selects the optimal path to deliver business-critical information and communications faster and more reliably. Only Internap's route-control technology provides private network performance and reliability across the public Internet.
According to the Phoenix Chamber of Commerce, the greater Phoenix area is the sixth largest in the country, with a population expected to reach 3.3 million by 2005. With the area's continued population growth, new trade opportunities, non-stop transatlantic flights and a sustained bright economic outlook, Phoenix's status as a transportation, distribution, and high-tech manufacturing hub is increasingly vital to the Southwest and the nation.
Maricopa County, in which the city of Phoenix resides, has been recognized by Fortune, Entrepreneur and Home Office magazines as one of the best places to build a business. Site Selection, a national economic development magazine, recently ranked Phoenix sixth among major metro areas that are attracting business expansions and relocations. The magazine also ranked Phoenix second among major metro areas in the number of new manufacturing sites.
"With its diverse economy - covering industries such as high-tech, banking, manufacturing and government - the Greater Phoenix area represents an ideal growth opportunity for Internap," added Abrahamson. "The opening of our latest PNAP in Phoenix will allow us to provide the highest level of service to businesses throughout Arizona and the surrounding region."
Internap offers a broad portfolio of advanced, multi-network solutions for IP connectivity, colocation, content distribution, managed security, managed virtual private networks (VPNs), and managed storage. In addition to managed network solutions, Internap also offers award-winning customer-premise equipment for enterprises that wish to manage their own multi-carrier network.
